So far, government forces have managed to thwart all attempts, but with dozens of them being killed in recent weeks, more could be on the way. Lebanon has been a safe haven for ISIS for many years, and the organization has used their presence in the country to spread their ideology and recruit militants, from Jordan and Saudi Arabia, to the West. But with ISIS suffering an important defeat in Syria, the militants aim to come home. They have made a few attempts, though, without much success. They tried to storm a government-controlled town in the Bekaa Valley in May, but forces were tipped off before they could reach them. Then, in late August, ISIS launched a suicide attack at the Internal Security Forces in the southern town of Arsal, killing two security forces. They then tried to break out of a prison in the eastern town of Baalbek but failed. Two weeks later, they launched another suicide attack in the same town, and another in Tripoli, killing more than a dozen civilians and soldiers. On Tuesday, they launched a surprise offensive, during the early hours of the morning, in the town of Zahleh, in northern Lebanon.
